Datalogz Launches BI Similarity, a First-of-Its-Kind Toolkit to Eliminate Duplicate Reports
Automatically find, quantify and root out overlapping reports and dashboards, a major driver of BI Sprawl.

Datalogz, the pioneer in ending BI sprawl for data-mature entities, announced the launch of BI Similarity, an industry-first toolkit that empowers organizations to proactively eliminate the duplicate reports and dashboards that are causing data chaos inside analytics environments.
The BI Similarity engine, which is included in the Datalogz Control Tower, provides automated capabilities to address one of the most common and overlooked problems in business intelligence and analytics environments today: Duplicate reports proliferate when different departments use different BI platforms to create similar reports to answer the same question. This redundancy leads to conflicting data, increased risk, wasted resources, and ultimately undermines trust in analytics initiatives.
“Inside most enterprises, similar reports are a silent killer of analytics programs,” said Logan Havern, Co-Founder and CEO of Datalogz. “Duplication leads users to consume the wrong information, which leads to bad decisions. With BI Similarity, Datalogz is proud to be the first in the industry to address this problem at the root, while empowering data teams with automated tools to find and eliminate overlapping reports. Our team works tirelessly every day to end BI Sprawl, and this is our most powerful tool yet.”
BI Similarity includes capabilities to automatically flag, measure, understand, and remediate similar reports across multiple BI platforms, such as Power BI and Tableau. Analyzing 15+ parameters, the engine is driven by the Similarity Score, which quantifies the degree of overlap in reports. It then flags reports and dashboards with similarity of 70% or greater in underlying data models, report structures, and analytical logic. The tool also provides granular insights that allow data teams to drill down on the cause of duplication, providing the information necessary to consolidate or decommission specific reports.
This powerful new capability will allow data teams to create more consistency across their environment, increase the quality of reporting, and strengthen decision-making. Additionally, better visibility into report duplication strengthens oversight, supports audit readiness, and helps enforce compliance policies across the BI environment.
Duplication can result from subtle differences that have a compounding impact. In one real-world example, a clinical research team tracking trial dropout rates built a dashboard in Power BI, while another department relied on a near-duplicate in Tableau. However, one report was based on outdated patient cohorts. Beyond the discrepancy itself, the conflicting insights jeopardized compliance and risked undermining critical protocol adjustments.
The BI Similarity engine will significantly bolster the capabilities of the Datalogz Control Tower, a BI Ops platform which provides visibility, monitoring, and alerting to strengthen governance, security, and performance, while reducing costs in environments with multiple BI platforms. Datalogz was born out of a crucial insight from Havern’s lived experience inside a major airline: Business intelligence platforms are where most business users interact with data, yet this consumption layer was frequently hampering the success of self-service analytics due to a lack of guardrails.
Similar reports were one of the top challenges in BI environments identified in the Datalogz State of BI Report 2025, which included insights from 50+ leaders and practitioners in BI, data and analytics across industries. Data practitioners shared that eliminating duplicate reports is often a manual process that occurs only after an issue is found, or during a significant event such as a migration or following an M&A transaction. In addition to present concerns that duplication is hobbling BI environments, interviewees stated that the introduction of AI will exacerbate these problems, as data, reports, and decisioning capabilities become more automated.
The Datalogz team will be taking its campaign to end BI Sprawl on the road this fall, with stops in Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, and Seattle. Additionally, team members including Lead Product Manager will be attending FabCon Europe in Vienna from Sept. 15-18.
